That's what Bill Kristol said recently on Special Report with Bret Baier, when the topic turned to the first ACORN employees fired in the wake of James O'Keefe's undercover reporting.
Right now, I would have to say liberals fear Glenn Beck more than any other conservative figure. He took down Van Jones, he's exposed the radicalism that surrounds Barack Obama, and he's building a popular uprising against big government. And now ACORN.
Last week, the internet buzzed with rumors that Beck had raped and killed a young girl. Well, not exactly rumors that he had done it, but rumors that he won't deny it. Liberal activists were retaliating for Beck's success with a smear campaign of their own.
This morning on Drudge, I found Time's cover story on Glenn Beck. And boy, are they working overtime to marginalize him. They are literally afraid of this guy. The article hints at insanity, and divides Beck somewhere between conspiracy theory and hypocrisy. He's either crazy, or he just knows how to work an audience into a frenzy for money.
The only option Time does not explore is the possibility that Glenn Beck really believes what he says, and that he really fears what he claims to fear: The same things we all fear. Time is willing to say anything about Beck except that he may be right.
Personally, I think Glenn Beck is playing with fire. He is waging successful counterattacks on an effort to change the way you think. Beck is leading the resistance against something corrupt and evil. He is a threat to power; a threat to "progress."
And I don't think he's doing it for the ratings.
I agree Glenn Beck isn't doing it for the ratings. I think he poses as just an entertainer in the same vein as Francisco d'Anconia poses as a playboy.
